I created this painting from a feeling that is difficult to define yet impossible to ignore: the understanding that nothing we experience ever truly disappears. It simply settles deeper within us, becoming part of the foundation on which we continue to stand.
The work began in darkness with deep burgundy and blue tones that felt inherently charged with memory. Moving upward, I let the painting develop according to its own logic. For a long time, the central area remained unresolved, filled with tension and intensity. I chose to preserve that uncertainty because it reflects a state where release has not yet arrived and transformation remains incomplete.
The light in the upper part of the composition emerged gradually. It was pale, fragile, and hesitant, yet undeniably present. Rather than forcing it, I allowed it to exist on its own terms.
Texture is vital to this work. The surface retains the traces of every single gesture: where paint was layered heavily, where it was scraped away, and where previous marks were partially erased. Each layer conceals another, yet nothing is entirely lost. The earlier layers continue to exist beneath the surface, shaping everything that follows.
In this sense, the painting reflects the way human beings are built. Nothing disappears without a trace. Our experiences simply shift in depth, becoming part of our internal architecture.
Working with layers became my entry point into Fragile States. It was through this specific piece that I first understood the central theme of the entire series: the vast, hidden complexity contained within a person who, from the outside, may appear entirely ordinary.
